High Park is a gem of a neighborhood located west of downtown Toronto. This historic neighbourhood is easily accessible to all who want to come and enjoy the beauty. Bounded between Bloor, Annette, Runnymede, and the railway tracks, High Park is a primarily residential neighbourhood with pre-war homes of Victorian, Edwardian, and Tudor-style architecture. Families, students, young professionals, and retirees alike are proud to call the rolling hills of High Park home. The heart of High Park is of course the park itself, the largest in Toronto proper with more than 161 hectares (400 acres) of recreation and nature opportunities. What is there to see?
Yes, a zoo in the middle of the city! The zoo has a wide range of animals to come and visit including llamas, reindeer, bison, a variety of sheep and peacock. The High Park Zoo is free to the public. The zoo has been in existence for over 120 years and remains an iconic visiting place for children and adults alike. It’s open from 7:00 am until dusk every day.
High Park is most certainly a family-oriented location, and the Jamie Bell Adventure Park attracts visitors from all over the GTA. The play structure was actually rebuilt in 2012 after the original was burnt down by an arsonist – the community banded together to create an amazing castle-inspired play structure that is like a dream come to life.
After a long day of walking through the zoo and swinging through playgrounds, feel free to grab a meal or a drink at the Grenadier Café conveniently located in the park. You won’t be able to order any alcohol however, as High Park is the only “dry” place in the city. It’s yet another perk for the family-friendly environment High Park has created.
You may have noticed a variety of beautiful flowers skillfully planted all over the city of Toronto. High Park plays host to the greenhouse where these flowers are grown and cared for with the purpose of being planted around Toronto. These greenhouses can be viewed by bystanders and runs a span of nine connected greenhouses.
As if this neighborhood could get any better? Well it can, with a splash pad, swimming pool and water play area inclusive of a water slide. Cool down with your kids in the safe and supervised pool area and don’t forget the sunscreen!
With even more additional features to High Park such as sports fields, beautiful blossomed trees, walking trails and much more, there is no doubt that living near High Park is a luxury. You will not find another place like it anywhere in Toronto.
